I sent my 5mx to Paul on 13th March, and on the 28th got an email saying Paul had posted it back; it was with me on the 31st.

I paid £45 to have a new screen cable fitted, £6 for repair of DC socket, £4 for repair of the open/close switch, £2 for a new backup battery.

I paid £4.75 for registered postage sending it, which insured it for £200.

Everything's fine so far!

On a slightly different topic: I also think that pages carrying lists of links to external sources should be distinct from pages carrying actual content - just because mixing the two looks a mess (the Psion Knowhow page is an example).

So I also need to find out about using page templates in WikiDot.

Normally stats are free, even from external providers like motigo.com.

It's not worth the money, because the log is a simple text file - base for statistics.

For that cost the basic info should be enough.

What do you think would be a good idea, Thomas? Several of us here might be willing to contribute. (But I can't be specific - my wife might have an unfavourable opinion about yet more spending on Psion, my boy's toy …) Can you persuade us that we need detailed stats?

How should this be organised? I'd suggest separate pages for Internal applications, Third-party applications, Programming and Hardware. If the knowhow section was kept to Q/A format then it wouldn't necessarily clash with other sections already on the site (e.g. programming and hardware) where more general information and tutorials would belong.

What do people think of this idea?

And the small but stable Psion community should stand together!

BTW: Could you open up the log size (500 lines now) for better web statistics?

Chris Cooper startet ein neues, englischsprachiges Wiki zu Psion - kurz und bündig 'PsionWiki - a knowledge hub for Psion computers' genannt.

Erst seit wenigen Monaten in Bau und seit 6. Jänner 2008 im Digest öffentlich gemacht, verfügt PsionWiki bereits über einigen Inhalt, soll nach Chris' Intention zu einer Quelle von Psionwissen und -Links werden, die das flüchtige Psion Know-How zu speichern vermag.

Jeder kann mitschreiben, es ist nur eine kurze Registrierung bei Wikidot.com und in PsionWiki selbst erforderlich.

I had a screen-cable repair to my 5mx in November 2006. After 14 months my screen has begun to show intermittent 'jailbar' effects again - the sure sign of cable failure. This is fair enough - PsionFlexi's guarantee, if I recall correctly, was for 3 months. But it's sad that the everlasting screen cable never got invented. Nonetheless, I'll doubtless be sending my little grey brick off to Paul at PsionFlexi again - after having googled to confirm he's still the best value going.

I can imagine the list plus further links getting so huge that one day it will have to be spread over several pages.

AFAIR it was Psion's Organiser I in 1984 to be the first mobile micro computer with batteries and a lasting memory when turned of (the use of EPROMs as memory cards was even patented).

Apples Newton Messagepad came in 1992 - in the times of Series 3. And Apple's CEO Sculley invented the name PDA referring to some genius processes in Newton's OS.

By the way, I've tried accessing the site on the 9300i via Opera Mini v 4.0.9800 and it's pretty much the same story.

I intend PsionWiki to last to all eternity. I, however, may not last that long, so in a few weeks I'll invite some contributors to share the management. Then, whenever one of us passes on to Psion Heaven, the wiki can continue on its stately way without a pause.

When contributing new content, please remember that the entry is part of a wiki, not a forum. The user shouldn't have to work through a sequence of entries to learn about a topic - there should be one entry that's constantly developing. People will be reluctant to modify an entry that has someone's name placed prominently at the top, or that is written in the first person throughout (that is, always saying "I") - such an entry reads like a personal diary that shouldn't be interfered with!

This will explain some modifications I will be making to the style of some recent entries.

Of course, I'm anxious that everyone's contributions should be fully acknowledged. Users can always see who first posted a topic, who made particular revisions, etc., by looking at the page history. I shall put occasional notes at the top of some pages drawing users' attention to this.

When using my 9300i to access PsionWiki (via wifi) I encounter problems like the ones described in my previous post, about using a MalayBook. I can visit the site and follow links, but not log in - takes an age to download, and freezes before completion.

Once again, I have JavaScript enabled.

Earlier this afternoon I tried viewing PW on my MalayBook, using wifi at my local library. (I can't do it at home, because we keep a password set on our home network, and my MB's Cisco AiroNet card can't handle that.) I have Opera v 5.14 installed on the MB, and I had Java enabled.

I was able to surf the Web generally. I could browse PsionWiki and follow its links. But I couldn't log in, or see the number on the site stats counter.

There are probably all sorts of settings that I should tell you about before you can diagnose the problem - but I don't know which ones to specify.

Can anyone suggest anything?
