How To Edit This Wiki
- You can edit (almost) any page by hitting the Edit button at the bottom. When you do, an Edit window appears at the bottom of the page, while the current version of the text remains at the top.
- You don't need to be a master of this wiki's syntax:
- Usually you can just copy, paste and modify relevant code from the Edit window that you're in. (Or from another page - visit that page and go into Edit mode to copy bits of its code.)
- If you can't see what you want, just leave your contribution as plain text for someone else to fix up some time.
- Or, if you're an experienced user, you can look for the relevant snippets of code from the Wiki Code Snippets page.
- You frequently get annoying and inappropriate alert messages beginning "Are you sure you want to navigate away from this page? …" Just hit Cancel in the dialogue window, or Escape on your keyboard, to dismiss them.
- You can create a new page using the button in the left-hand panel. You can also create a new page while editing an existing one: use the buttons in the middle of the panel of buttons visible above the Edit window. It's often quite useful to create a page that you can't yourself fill in, as an invitation to others.
- You can also create a link to an existing page using the buttons above the Edit window.
- Always remember to hit the Save button as your last action after an edit. After that, add plenty of tags - button at bottom of every page.
- Inserting images: this is a two-stage process. First you must attach the image to the page, by hitting the 'file' button at the bottom of the page; then you must edit the page and use the 'Insert image' or 'Insert image wizard' button in the panel.
- It seems to work best to have the images in GIF format on the PC and to give them short names with no spaces or underscores.
- Some matters are reserved to the managers (at present, that means Chris Cooper): overall style, the content of the navigation panel at the left, and so on.
- Although creating and editing pages is easy, there are a lot more options: visit the Wikidot Help pages to learn more.
